You will own the safe transport of up to 10 passengers in a district van between schools and the La Sierra Community Center, plus seasonal field trips. You report to the Recreation Supervisor and work alongside program staff to keep schedules tight. Daily, you inspect the vehicle, manage rosters, and enforce no-child-alone protocols. What You'll Do10

  • 1Drive the 10-passenger van on daily routes to elementary and middle schools, picking up after-school participants and delivering them to La Sierra Community Center.
  • 2Coordinate with the Recreation Supervisor on pick-up and drop-off times, absences, and roster changes, communicating clearly while on the road.
  • 3Complete a comprehensive van inspection each morning, flagging any mechanical or safety concerns before transporting children.
  • 4Ensure no child is left unattended in the van, confirming every rider exits at each stop and at the end of all routes.
  • 5Model professional behavior for staff, coaching on child monitoring and engagement during transit and at program sites.
  • 6Manage inventory of first aid and emergency supplies, restocking as needed and reporting shortages to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • 7Lead seasonal field trip transports, adapting routes for varying weather and traffic conditions.
  • 8Attend staff trainings and performance evaluations, integrating feedback to improve safety practices.
  • 9Assist with loading and unloading gear, including lifting up to 50 lbs, and support general program supplies.
  • 10Project care and concern for all participants, parents, and coworkers in every interaction.

Requirements10

  • 1Valid California Driver's License with a clean record (no more than 2 points).
  • 25+ years of driving experience, preferably in a passenger or commercial vehicle.
  • 3No DUI on record within the last 10 years.
  • 4Knowledge of local, state (CA), and federal transportation laws and regulations.
  • 5Ability to work independently and collaboratively, following supervisor direction.
  • 6Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with staff, parents, and youth.
  • 7Physical stamina to sit, stand, run, walk on uneven ground, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • 8Comfort working outdoors in varying weather, from cold rain to 100°F heat.
  • 9Desire to work with children and support their safety and well-being.
  • 10Flexibility to work varied hours, including after-school and occasional weekends.
