You will own emergency care for pets across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, handling critical cases from triage to surgery at VEG's 24/7 hospitals. You'll work with a collaborative team of ER veterinarians, technicians, and support staff in an open-concept environment designed for fast, transparent care. What You'll Do8
- 1Perform comprehensive physical exams and diagnostic procedures, including ultrasound, X-ray, bloodwork, and biopsy, to diagnose emergency conditions.
- 2Run VEG Triage and VEG Spikes protocols to see patients immediately and keep families informed throughout the visit.
- 3Communicate diagnosis and treatment options directly with pet owners, addressing their concerns and demonstrating the value of each test and procedure.
- 4Create and review medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness, documenting every case from intake to outcome.
- 5Perform minor and major emergency surgeries, including soft tissue procedures, and endoscopic interventions for a variety of species, including exotics.
- 6Educate clients on aftercare and preventative measures, ensuring a smooth recovery and reducing return visits.
- 7Lead the hospital floor as a calm, confident presence, guiding the team through high-stress situations and modeling exceptional customer service.
- 8Answer medical questions over the phone, providing immediate guidance to pet owners before they arrive.
Requirements8
- 1Hold a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited program.
- 22+ years of experience in emergency medicine, with proven proficiency in emergency surgery and endoscopy.
- 3Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and 40 kg with assistance, and to stand, kneel, and work on the floor for extended periods.
- 4Comfort working in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors, as part of a 24/7 hospital setting.
- 5Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or on-call basis.
- 6Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment, with a collaborative mindset and willingness to mentor others.
- 7Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical information to clients with empathy and clarity.
