As a Relief Emergency Veterinarian in Los Angeles, you will own urgent and critical cases for a diverse client base, delivering life-saving interventions in a high-stakes environment. You will join a team of 4,500+ doctors including 600+ Specialists across a national network. Your compensation is $2,700 per shift with full access to VCA's WOOF University and CE programs. What You'll Do8
- 1Triage and stabilize emergency patients, performing CPR, oxygen therapy, and wound management within the first 90 days.
- 2Execute surgical procedures including exploratory laparotomy and fracture repair under time-sensitive conditions.
- 3Diagnose using advanced imaging (ultrasound, radiography) and laboratory analysis to drive treatment plans.
- 4Coordinate with specialty teams for oncology, cardiology, and neurology consults to ensure comprehensive care.
- 5Counsel pet owners with empathy, explaining diagnoses and treatment options, building trust and loyalty.
- 6Document cases accurately in eVet or equivalent software, ensuring compliance and continuity of care.
- 7Mentor interns and veterinary students, sharing clinical reasoning and procedural skills during night shifts.
- 8Partner with veterinary technicians to optimize patient flow and resource utilization during peak hours.
Requirements7
- 15+ years of emergency medicine experience, with board certification in emergency and critical care.
- 2Active state licensure in California, with DEA registration for controlled substances.
- 3Proficiency in point-of-care ultrasound and mechanical ventilation for critical patients.
- 4Strong surgical skills including thoracotomy and enterotomy, demonstrated through case logs.
- 5Experience with trauma management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a high-volume ER.
- 6Excellent communication for client updates and team collaboration, with a calm demeanor under stress.
- 7Willingness to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 facility.
