Toxicologist I Post-Mortem, Forensic Toxicology
Overview
You will determine cause and manner of death by testing biological specimens for toxic substances in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. You will work in a SAMHSA-accredited lab with a team of forensic toxicologists. This role offers direct impact on public health and legal outcomes.
What You'll Do8
- 1Operate LC-MS/MS and GC-MS to detect drugs and poisons in post-mortem samples.
- 2Validate and implement new analytical methods for emerging substances.
- 3Interpret toxicology results and draft reports for medical examiners.
- 4Troubleshoot instrument issues and perform routine maintenance.
- 5Coordinate with pathologists to ensure chain of custody and sample integrity.
- 6Train junior staff on Forensic Toxicology procedures and safety protocols.
- 7Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance programs.
- 8Document all findings in compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
Requirements6
- 1Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Toxicology, Pharmacology, or related science.
- 2Bachelor's degree and 2+ years in forensic toxicology.
- 3Hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and sample preparation.
- 4Knowledge of Forensic Toxicology principles and post-mortem specimen handling.
- 5Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- 6Ability to work in a high-volume lab and meet deadlines.
