Toolmaker, Medical Injection Molds

Protolabs seeks a Mold Process Technician to lead injection molding operations. This role drives production excellence and innovation. Responsibilities span setup operation and quality assurance across shifts.

You will own technical support for external and internal customers, setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, optimizing, and repairing injection molding systems. Your work spans hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems, plus programmable controls. You'll collaborate with a team of service technicians and report to the Service Team Leader, with extensive travel to customer sites. This role stands out with a focus on mentoring and leading other technicians, and you'll apply 10+ years of injection molding expertise to solve complex machine issues.

You will own troubleshooting and maintenance across our injection molding lines, directly supporting a production floor that ships less-lethal systems. Working under our lead technician, you will keep injection molding machines running, then cross into PLC-driven automation assembly equipment. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with electrical diagnostics, and you will coordinate with engineers and vendors to sustain uptime. You will also handle emergency repairs on plant infrastructure like air compressors and water chillers, making this a varied position for a technician who likes ownership.

You will own injection molding processes for a growing plastics manufacturer, developing and validating new procedures using Scientific Injection Molding and decoupled molding principles. You will work directly at the press, troubleshooting machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment to ensure stable, capable, and efficient production. You will join a cross-functional team of Production, Engineering, and Quality professionals and train mold setters and technicians on proper techniques. This is a hands-on, manufacturing-floor role where your daily work directly impacts quality, cycle time, and scrap reduction.

The role owns production of silicone rubber implantable medical device components and ensures quality through inspections. Responsibilities include handling small parts managing inventory troubleshooting injection molds labeling and assembling medical devices Prior experience with microscope is a plus.

Lead stable efficient and safe injection molding processes that hit quality targets every time. Own processes that achieve high uptime across presses via proactive monitoring and swift issue resolution. Ensure accurate mold changeovers with utilities connected alignment verified and mold protection confirmed. Lock processes to Master Setup Sheets with parameters documented and controlled. Complete first-piece approvals and in-process checks with proper gauges and measurement tools. Eliminate defects like short shots flash splay burns and warpage through root cause analysis and corrective action. Reduce internal/external PPM through disciplined processing and continuous improvement. Safety critical devices guards interlocks drop bars and switches checked and functional at all times.
