Systems Administrator, Windows Server & VMware
Overview
You will own the infrastructure behind a 2,000+ person national organization, ensuring Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, VMware, storage, backup, and networking systems stay secure, reliable, and available. Based in Phoenix or Scottsdale, you will provide West Coast coverage for Atwell's Technology team, work independently on complex issues, and collaborate across storage, backup, monitoring, and automation. For senior candidates, this role includes leading projects, setting technical standards, and mentoring team members. This position stands out for its mix of hands-on administration and strategic infrastructure evolution.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build, configure, maintain, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments.
- 2Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related Windows infrastructure services.
- 3Support Microsoft 365 and hybrid identity services, managing access in line with security standards.
- 4Administer VMware vCenter and ESXi, including virtual machine lifecycle and virtual networking.
- 5Manage SAN, NAS, and enterprise storage, including NTFS/share permissions, DFS, and FSRM.
- 6Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot backup platforms like Veeam, Backup Exec, or similar, performing restores and recovery testing.
- 7Monitor infrastructure health via VMware, SNMP, RMM, and backup platforms, investigating alerts and events.
- 8Build and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive tasks and improve consistency.
- 9Support infrastructure networking including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching, collaborating with Network Administration.
- 10Apply security baselines and patches, support vulnerability remediation, and maintain least-privilege access.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
- 2Strong experience administering Windows Server and Active Directory environments.
- 3Hands-on experience with VMware vCenter, ESXi, and virtual machines.
- 4Experience supporting enterprise backup and recovery technologies.
- 5Experience managing enterprise storage, permissions, and distributed file systems.
- 6Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Windows environments.
- 7Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, and virtual networking.
- 8Experience using PowerShell for scripting, automation, or administrative tasks.
- 9Strong technical troubleshooting skills across multiple infrastructure layers.
- 10Ability to work independently, prioritize competing issues, and take ownership through resolution.
