Overview
The Supervisory Investigator leads the residency and enrollment investigation team at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). You will own complex investigations into residency violations across 250+ schools and 60+ LEAs, ensuring compliance with DC residency laws. You will supervise, train, and coach a team of investigators, managing their caseloads and guiding them through legally complex cases. This role combines hands-on investigation work with leadership, reporting directly to the Director of Enrollment and Residency. It is a key position in protecting the integrity of DC's public education system for 90,000+ students.
What You'll Do9
- 1Supervise a team of investigators, assigning cases based on workload, experience, and resource allocation.
- 2Train and coach investigators on investigation techniques, legal standards, and case management.
- 3Plan and conduct complex residency investigations involving DC laws, statutes, and regulations.
- 4Manage long-term, interregional, or nationwide investigations into residency violations.
- 5Review investigator findings and ensure case quality and compliance with legal requirements.
- 6Coordinate with OER leadership on policy interpretations and sensitive issues.
- 7Oversee the resolution of parental disputes involving residency status.
- 8Drive the team to meet performance targets and case closure deadlines within the first 90 days.
- 9Maintain accurate case records and documentation in accordance with OSSE protocols.
Requirements7
- 11+ year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service or MS-12 in DC government.
- 2Experience supervising investigators or leading complex investigations.
- 3Knowledge of DC residency laws, enrollment policies, and public education regulations.
- 4Ability to analyze and interpret legal documents and evidence.
- 5Strong writing and communication skills for reports and recommendations.
- 6Experience in conducting interviews and gathering evidence.
- 7Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize workload.
