Overview

The Superintendent oversees all day-to-day field operations on public works and civil infrastructure projects from mobilization through final completion. This role leads field personnel and subcontractors while maintaining project schedules safety quality productivity and compliance with contract requirements. Projects span water and wastewater facilities pump stations underground utilities parks and recreation facilities athletic fields site improvements concrete paving earthwork environmental infrastructure and other municipal or public agency initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses strong public works or heavy civil construction experience and can coordinate multiple trades in active field environments.

What You'll Do16

  • 1Manage daily field operations from project mobilization through final completion
  • 2Coordinate subcontractors field crews vendors inspectors and equipment to maintain project schedules
  • 3Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and daily production plans
  • 4Coordinate earthwork underground utilities concrete paving mechanical systems landscaping and related scopes as applicable
  • 5Review plans specifications and contract documents to ensure work meets project requirements
  • 6Lead subcontractor coordination meetings safety meetings and daily field planning
  • 7Monitor manpower productivity material deliveries and equipment utilization
  • 8Identify field conflicts and constructability issues before they affect the project schedule
  • 9Coordinate inspections testing agencies municipalities and public agency representatives
  • 10Maintain daily reports photographs manpower logs and project documentation
  • 11Enforce OSHA requirements site-specific safety plans and safe work practices
  • 12Partner with Project Managers to monitor schedule performance change conditions procurement and project milestones
  • 13Ensure quality-control requirements are maintained throughout construction
  • 14Coordinate project shutdowns tie-ins utility work and phased construction when required
  • 15Manage punch list completion final inspections startup activities and project closeout
  • 16Maintain professional relationships with owners inspectors engineers and field personnel

Requirements16

  • 17–15+ years construction experience with at least 5 years serving as a Superintendent
  • 2Strong experience with public works heavy civil general engineering municipal or infrastructure construction
  • 3Experience managing projects involving underground utilities sitework concrete paving water/wastewater or similar civil scopes
  • 4Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and field crews
  • 5Strong understanding of construction sequencing scheduling logistics and field productivity
  • 6Ability to read and interpret civil structural mechanical and utility drawings and specifications
  • 7Experience coordinating inspections testing and public agency requirements
  • 8Strong leadership communication and problem-solving skills
  • 9Ability to manage fast-paced construction environments while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • 10Proficiency with construction management and field reporting software
  • 11Preferred Qualifications Experience with treatment plants pump stations pipelines parks athletic facilities or municipal site improvement projects
  • 12Familiarity with prevailing wage certified payroll and public works requirements
  • 13Experience with self-perform construction operations
  • 14OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • 15First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • 16Proficiency with Procore Bluebeam Microsoft Project Primavera P6 or similar platforms
