What You'll Do9
- 1Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment using sterilizers, washers, and ultrasonic cleaners.
- 2Inspect, assemble, and package surgical trays for all service lines, ensuring correct contents and sterility.
- 3Operate and maintain steam and low-temperature sterilization systems, documenting every cycle.
- 4Build and QA case carts for scheduled surgeries, verifying pick lists against physician preferences.
- 5Train new Sterile Processing Technicians on departmental protocols and equipment use.
- 6Troubleshoot instrument issues, equipment malfunctions, and customer complaints in real time.
- 7Maintain accurate sterilization records, including biological and chemical indicator results.
- 8Distribute sterile products to operating rooms and clinical departments, tracking inventory.
- 9Participate in performance improvement projects to enhance workflow efficiency and safety.
Requirements9
- 1High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
- 2Current CRCST (IAHCSMM) or CBSPD certification
- 33+ years of Sterile Processing Technician experience
- 4Knowledge of decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of medical devices
- 5Ability to operate sterilizers, washers, and ultrasonic cleaners
- 6Flexibility to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
- 7Leadership abilities and strong communication skills
- 8Basic computer skills with Windows OS
- 9Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
