Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University seeks a dedicated Helpdesk support specialist to join the team beginning October 1 2026. This six-month position offers the chance for annual renewal and provides direct service to the Biology and Chemistry departments. What You'll Do8
- 1Provide end-user support for all Biology and Chemistry Department staff Faculty and students
- 2Maintain and troubleshoot workstations file servers and web servers
- 3Lead backup and data restoration initiatives using Veeam Backup and CrashPlan
- 4Install and configure software and hardware as required
- 5Advise faculty researchers and graduate students on lab equipment usage
- 6Collaborate with university IT teams to resolve network and email issues
- 7Complete all support tickets in the ServiceNow system
- 8Drive process improvements to streamline technical assistance workflows
Requirements11
- 15+ years experience in IT support with Level 2 or higher tier
- 2Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 3Strong analytical skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- 4Proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service
- 5Certification such as CPC Card or BCBA preferred
- 6Ability to obtain professional references including at least one supervisor
- 7Demonstrated knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure
- 8Familiarity with containerization platforms like Kubernetes
- 9Experience deploying applications on React frameworks
- 10Understanding of container orchestration with Docker
- 11Commitment to continuous learning and skill development
