Sr. Hardware Engineer, Ethernet Switching & Power Design
Overview
You will own hardware design for high-reliability PCBAs in harsh-environment industrial Ethernet switches, from concept through field support. You will design DDR3/DDR4 memory, embedded CPUs, and low voltage power up to 138V DC, while driving verification and EMC compliance. You will join a stable, long-tenured team in Raleigh, NC, with a strong roadmap and a well-equipped lab. This role grows from verification into deeper design ownership, with mentorship from senior engineers.
What You'll Do14
- 1Design PCBAs for Layer 2/3 industrial Ethernet switches, including switch and PHY circuitry.
- 2Perform electrical design integrating low voltage power supplies (DC up to 138V), DDR3/DDR4 SDRAM, NOR/NAND flash, and embedded CPUs/SoCs.
- 3Develop analog and digital board-level circuitry for harsh environments, ensuring robust performance.
- 4Execute hardware verification on new products, including bench testing, debug, and validation of design requirements.
- 5Provide lifecycle support from inception to end of life, resolving field issues beyond field support.
- 6Analyze new product requirements to meet commercial, technical, and reliability objectives.
- 7Design for EMC at the schematic level, enabling compliance with relevant standards.
- 8Contribute to low voltage power supply design, including architecture, regulation, and protection for DC up to 138V.
- 9Collaborate on circuit-level Ethernet switching, including Layer 2/3 switching, PHY interfaces, and 1Gb/10Gb high-speed design.
- 10Create and maintain schematics using entry tools, supporting DFM and DFT with manufacturing.
- 11Support compliance activities, including EMC and safety testing (UL, CSA, TUV, FCC).
- 12Work with cross-functional teams (firmware, test, manufacturing) to resolve issues and improve performance.
- 13Mentor less experienced engineers in power design, EMC, and high-speed digital design.
- 14Contribute to continuous improvement of design practices and verification methodologies.
Requirements10
- 1BSEE or BSCE degree.
- 26+ years in analog and digital board-level hardware design.
- 36+ years in low voltage power supply design with DC inputs up to 138V.
- 4Hands-on experience with embedded CPU, microprocessor, or SoC platforms, including DDR3/DDR4 and NOR/NAND flash.
- 5Networking hardware design with 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet and switching architectures.
- 6Demonstrated EMC design at schematic level, including component selection and mitigation strategies.
- 7Proficiency with schematic entry tools and production-ready schematics.
- 8Experience with PCB design integrating Ethernet PHYs, power supplies, and mixed-signal circuitry.
- 9Familiarity with industrial Ethernet switching at circuit level, including Layer 2/3 switch and PHY design.
- 10Strong troubleshooting and verification skills using lab equipment.
