Sr. Data Engineer, Used Cars Program at Tesla
Overview
You will own the operational backbone of the used car pricing function across US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, ensuring daily pricing accuracy and competitive positioning. Working at the intersection of machine learning and pricing science, you will build and refine ML-based pricing models including resale value forecasts and trade-in offers. You will collaborate with teams like Finance Analytics and Product to translate complex analyses into pricing decisions that directly impact margins and inventory turn. What You'll Do6
- 1Manage daily pricing operations across all active markets, tuning system parameters and resolving exceptions to keep outputs precise and market-responsive.
- 2Build and improve ML pricing models using Python and SQL, from design through production, covering resale value forecasting and listing price optimization.
- 3Drive strategic analytics projects end-to-end, including competitor pricing analysis and inventory optimization, turning data into actionable insights.
- 4Monitor model performance in production, detecting drift and edge cases, and implement fixes or overrides as needed.
- 5Expand ML applications to new areas like auction price strategy and routing efficiency, adapting models to new markets.
- 6Partner with Finance Analytics and Operations to communicate findings and ensure models align with business goals.
Requirements6
- 13-5+ years in data science or quantitative analytics with hands-on experience in Python or R and SQL.
- 2Proven record building and deploying predictive models in production, including regression, time series, or tree-based methods.
- 3Deep understanding of model monitoring and drift detection in a live environment.
- 4Ability to convert analytical results into business decisions and communicate them to non-technical stakeholders.
- 5Experience in pricing, valuation, or inventory optimization is a plus, as is familiarity with A/B testing frameworks.
- 6Comfort in fast-changing, ambiguous settings where you take ownership of outcomes.
