Overview

The Senior WriterEditor leads technical communications at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) focusing on software as a strategic advantage for national security. This role writes and edits content for reports websites blogs and presentations while collaborating with researchers engineers and subject-matter experts. You will manage content through all stages of the writing process ensuring clarity organization voice and adherence to style standards.

What You'll Do11

  • 1Edit formal technical reports at all editorial levels including substantive editing copyediting and proofreading correcting grammar punctuation syntax usage capitalization citations and formatting
  • 2Write technical content and stories for the SEI website Year in Review and other communication channels
  • 3Collaborate with technical staff to create blog posts web content video scripts and electronic media materials
  • 4Plan manage schedule and track project tasks
  • 5Develop original content perform line-by-line editing of complex documents
  • 6Advocate for subject-matter experts while supporting their readers
  • 7Maintain consistent editorial standards and style guides across long-form technical documents
  • 8Interview or work closely with subject-matter experts to plan written materials
  • 9Utilize Microsoft Office applications Word and PowerPoint
  • 10Travel within SEI and CMU community and sponsor site conferences and offsite meetings
  • 11Complete a copyediting assessment evaluating grammar punctuation consistency clarity and adherence to editorial standards

Requirements11

  • 1At least five years of writing and editing experience
  • 2Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills including mastery of grammar punctuation syntax and consistency
  • 3Strong organizational time management and project management abilities
  • 4Ability to interview or collaborate with subject-matter experts
  • 5Experience with complex subjects preferably in software science
  • 6Background investigation and ability to obtain Department of War security clearance
  • 7Proficiency with research writing long-form documentation and Microsoft Office
  • 8Experience with markup languages or LaTeX or other document preparation systems
  • 9Willingness to travel within SEI and CMU community
  • 10Commitment to customer service for subject-matter experts
  • 11Social skills for effective teamwork
