
Senior Technical Writer, Tools & GSA Support
Overview
As a Senior Technical Writer at ASR International, you will own the creation and maintenance of Item Purchase Descriptions for the U.S. General Services Administration's Tools Branch, managing a workload of 6,600 NSNs annually. You will join a tight-knit engineering support team in Kansas City, collaborating with engineers and data specialists to ensure technical accuracy and compliance. Working onsite, you will research and apply standards like ASME and MIL-STD, and your expertise will directly impact federal procurement and logistics. This role offers a unique blend of technical writing, data validation, and product research, with the opportunity to shape standards for hand tools used across government agencies.
What You'll Do9
- 1Write and update Item Purchase Descriptions in TIMS or EDMS, ensuring accuracy of components like Description, Item Name Code, and Unit of Issue.
- 2Own the full workflow for NSN creation and updates, processing up to 550 NSNs monthly and meeting two-week turnaround deadlines.
- 3Research and apply ASME, SAE, FED-STD, MIL-STD, CID, ANSI, QP4, and QPD standards to each description.
- 4Validate FLIS data against Item Purchase Descriptions, flagging and resolving discrepancies.
- 5Submit cataloging requests, including NCAL requests, to update the FLIS Total Item Record.
- 6Prepare weekly Quality Status Reports and monthly progress reports covering workload, error rates, and compliance.
- 7Notify engineering leadership of changes affecting NSNs, including activations, terminations, or logistical relocations.
- 8Document all actions in EDMS and TIMS, attaching technical data sheets and email correspondence.
- 9Conduct market research to identify current manufacturer part numbers and supplier information for cataloging.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of technical writing experience in a government or defense environment.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3Experience with Item Purchase Descriptions and NSN management is strongly preferred.
- 4Proficiency with TIMS and EDMS systems.
- 5Knowledge of ASME, SAE, FED-STD, MIL-STD, CID, ANSI, QP4, and QPD standards.
- 6Familiarity with FLIS and TIR item records.
- 7Ability to pass a background check and obtain a security clearance as required by the client.
- 8Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
