Senior Software Engineer, Payments Platform & Global Payments
Overview
Scala and Java driven senior engineer joining the Disney Entertainment and ESPN Payments team to own a multi-tenant platform serving Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. You will partner with product, security, and platform teams to ensure reliability, security, and scale across global payment ecosystems. The role is onsite with 4 days in the office and emphasizes ownership, design influence, and long-term system health. This team blends commerce, growth, and identity to power delightful customer experiences at scale.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and own scalable, multi-tenant payment services from design through production and operation to ensure high availability for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.
- 2Lead reliability and performance improvements for mission-critical payment components and integrations with new processors
- 3Deliver at scale by designing and operating high-throughput payment workflows that handle millions of transactions with low latency
- 4Architect and evolve Tier 1 payment services with cross-team collaboration to address regional requirements and SCA compliance
- 5Champion security best practices for payment data storage, tokenization, and PCI compliance across systems
- 6Maintain high engineering standards through well-tested code, design reviews, and ongoing quality improvements
- 7Identify opportunities for automation, technical debt reduction, and platform innovations to shape the future of the payments platform
- 8Operate critical production systems via on-call rotations, incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation
- 9Develop deep expertise in Global Payments and international ecosystems to support a global streaming audience
- 10Mentor teammates and contribute to team growth and knowledge sharing
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2Minimum of 5+ years building scalable software systems in Scala or Java
- 3Hands-on experience with API design including REST and gRPC, and event-driven architectures using Kafka or AWS SNS/SQS
- 4Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS and container orchestration with Kubernetes
- 5Strong communication and collaboration skills in dynamic environments
- 6Proven ability to own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of payment services
- 7Exposure to security practices around PCI compliance and tokenization
- 8Experience participating in on-call rotations and incident response
- 9Familiarity with Spinnaker or similar CD tools is a plus
- 10Functional programming experience with Scala and related ecosystems is preferred
