Senior Software Development Engineer SDN Routing and Dynamic Networks
Overview
Design and build routing control-plane software for a global satellite network with a continuously changing topology. This role is based in Seattle, WA, or Cupertino, CA. The position involves creating software that models and optimizes network connectivity while maintaining seamless communication across diverse environments.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design, implement, test, and operate routing control-plane software for satellite, gateway, and terrestrial networks
- 2Develop topology models for current and predicted connectivity across satellites, optical links, gateways, and Points of Presence
- 3Implement path-computation algorithms that account for latency, capacity, availability, congestion, policy, and resource constraints
- 4Translate network intent and computed paths into forwarding state on network elements
- 5Develop routing behavior for topology transitions, link changes, node movement, degraded links, and failures
- 6Integrate telemetry, topology, link-state, and network-condition data into route computation and control systems
- 7Create simulation, emulation, and test capabilities for routing correctness, convergence, scalability, resiliency, and performance
- 8Diagnose routing and forwarding issues across the control plane, data plane, and physical topology
Requirements11
- 15+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 23-5 seasons of professional software development experience
- 35+ years developing software for networking, distributed systems, infrastructure, or embedded systems
- 4Experience with IP routing, packet forwarding, convergence, failure recovery, or traffic engineering
- 5Experience developing production software in C++, Rust, Go, Java, or Python
- 6Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 7Experiment with SDN controllers, path-computation systems, or network-management software
- 8Exposure to satellite, aerospace, mobile ad hoc, wireless mesh, or optical networks
- 9Familiarity with centralized route computation, distributed routing, fast reroute, or local protection mechanisms
- 10Knowledge of IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, PCEP, TI-LFA, or ECMP
- 11Ability to program forwarding behavior on network processors, switching ASICs, embedded systems, or programmable data planes
