
Senior Property Accountant, Real Estate & REIT
Overview
You will own the general ledger for a portfolio of self-storage assets totaling $2 Billion under management. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will post journal entries, perform month-end analytics, and reconcile balance sheets for properties across New York, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Illinois. You will collaborate with property teams and prepare reports for equity partners and lenders. What You'll Do10
- 1Own the full general ledger for a portfolio of real estate assets, posting journal entries for prepaids, accruals, utility payments, and cash receipts.
- 2Perform month-end income statement analytics, comparing actuals to budgets and prior periods.
- 3Meet with internal property field teams to review financial performance and drive actionable insights.
- 4Create and publish financial reports for internal operations, equity partners, and lenders.
- 5Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, including cash, prepaids, and accruals.
- 6Code and approve vendor invoices for your assigned assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- 7Perform ad-hoc financial research for internal and external stakeholders to support decision-making.
- 8Monitor portfolio financial performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on trends.
- 9Partner with operations teams to create annual budgets and update mid-year forecasts.
- 10Act as liaison with outsourced tax preparers and external auditors during audits and tax filings.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's degree in accounting, required.
- 27+ years of accounting experience, required.
- 3Intermediate spreadsheet skills, including sort, filter, and v-lookup, required.
- 4Experience with multi-entity accounting, required.
- 5Real estate and/or REIT experience, required.
- 6MRI software experience or similar multi-entity software, preferred.
- 7Nexus AP software or similar AP software, preferred.
