Senior OEM Paint Shop Consultant, Automotive Operations
Overview
Senior OEM Paint Shop Consultant leads operational transformations in automotive paint facilities. You will own plant-wide assessments, drive quality improvements, and mentor leadership teams. This role is ideal for a former Paint Shop Manager who thrives on the shop floor and in the boardroom. You'll partner with OEM clients to reduce defects, raise FTT, and build sustainable process controls. Your work directly impacts production efficiency and long-term client success.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead operational assessments of OEM paint shops to pinpoint inefficiencies, quality risks, and bottlenecks.
- 2Apply 8D, A3, PDCA, and DMAIC to resolve complex manufacturing and quality issues.
- 3Design and implement standardized workflows, control plans, and Lean Manufacturing procedures.
- 4Drive continuous improvement focused on paint quality issues, defect reduction, and rework elimination.
- 5Analyze KPIs including FTT, OEE, and downtime to set performance targets and track progress.
- 6Partner with plant leadership to build performance dashboards and accountability systems.
- 7Coach plant teams in Six Sigma principles and structured problem-solving methods.
- 8Lead cross-functional teams through process changes, launches, and recovery activities.
- 9Deliver executive-level recommendations backed by data analysis and operational insight.
- 10Support launch readiness for new vehicle programs and paint shop installations.
Requirements10
- 110+ years of progressive leadership in OEM paint shop operations.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or equivalent experience.
- 3Proven track record in roles like Paint Process Manager, Area Manager, or Operations Manager.
- 4Deep knowledge of pretreatment, E-Coat, basecoat, clearcoat, and final finish processes.
- 5Experience using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to drive improvements.
- 6Strong analytical skills with KPI-driven decision-making.
- 7Excellent communication and presentation abilities for executive audiences.
- 8Willingness to travel 50-75% to client sites.
- 9Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
- 10Experience with multiple OEMs like Ford, General Motors, or Stellantis is a plus.
