K2 Space builds the largest high-power satellites for national security missions. We seek a Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer to lead development of modeling and simulation capabilities. This role drives design verification and operation of spacecraft for demanding missions. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and contributes to a groundbreaking Series C space startup.
What You'll Do11
- 1Develop mission-level modeling and simulation of national security space missions capturing operational objectives environments and constraints
- 2Model and analyze constellation-level capability and performance against mission requirements including network coverage beam planning and resilience in contested environments
- 3Support classified programs in accordance with security requirements
- 4Create and maintain simulation software infrastructure for our 20kW+ spacecraft
- 5Develop physics-based software models of spacecraft subsystems including propulsion attitude control power and communications systems
- 6Create and utilize robust tools for rapid deployment of quality code
- 7Perform data analysis and anomaly investigation to identify and resolve on-orbit problems
- 8Support integration and testing of spacecraft subsystems
- 9Set technical direction review designs and code and mentor junior engineers
- 10Generalize simulation tools to operate in classified contexts modeling multiple spacecraft and mission profiles
- 11Design many-agent mission-level simulations and tools for operating entire constellations informing mission assurance and critical decisions
Requirements17
- 1Active TS/SCI clearance or held within the last 12 months and US citizenship
- 2Current or previous SAP access
- 3Prior experience on classified national security programs and secure SCIF environments
- 4Bachelor's degree in physics aerospace mechanical electrical engineering computer science math or STEM field
- 55+ years professional modeling and simulation experience
- 6Development experience in Rust C++ or similar compiled languages
- 7Experience with scientific Python NumPy SciPy or similar
- 8Demonstrated ability to own complex systems end-to-end and guide engineers
- 9Nice to have Master's or PhD in relevant fields
- 10Experience with mission-level or campaign-level modeling for defense or national security applications
- 11Experience working in Rust production environments
- 12Experience defining and creating simulation systems
- 13Knowledge of Monte Carlo simulations and probability statistics
- 14Background in linear algebra controls and orbital mechanics
- 15Familiarity with space communication modeling RF ground stations
- 16Basic knowledge of electronics Linux and computer architecture
- 17Experience with CI/CD systems

$160 - $200k per year
