Senior Mechanical Estimator, Advanced Manufacturing
Overview
You will lead mechanical estimating for a large-scale, multi-phase advanced manufacturing program in North Phoenix, Arizona. This program ranks among the largest construction efforts in the U.S., with complex facilities, utility infrastructure, and mission-critical mechanical scopes. You will partner with clients, designers, contractors, and project teams to deliver accurate cost planning, estimate validation, and cost management across the project lifecycle. What You'll Do16
- 1Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction-phase cost estimates for mechanical scopes, including HVAC, process piping, and utility systems.
- 2Develop and maintain mechanical cost plans, budgets, and forecast models, updating them as design evolves and new information emerges.
- 3Review drawings, specifications, BIM models, and design documents to quantify and estimate mechanical systems accurately.
- 4Produce quantity takeoffs for HVAC systems, process piping, utility infrastructure, process cooling water, and related equipment.
- 5Partner with engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to evaluate design changes and assess cost impacts.
- 6Validate contractor and subcontractor estimates, pricing proposals, and bid submissions against project benchmarks.
- 7Lead estimate reconciliation meetings to align stakeholders on cost assumptions and resolve discrepancies.
- 8Evaluate and negotiate change orders, keeping change management documentation precise and current.
- 9Support cost management activities including cost reporting, forecasting, contingency tracking, and budget monitoring.
- 10Build benchmark data, unit rates, productivity assumptions, and historical cost databases to sharpen estimating accuracy.
- 11Monitor labor markets, material pricing trends, and supply chain risks that affect project costs, advising the team on adjustments.
- 12Provide value engineering support, recommending cost-effective design and construction alternatives.
- 13Prepare estimate narratives, executive summaries, and client-facing presentations that communicate cost rationale clearly.
- 14Support procurement by reviewing bid packages and evaluating commercial proposals for mechanical packages.
- 15Collaborate with project controls and cost management teams to maintain cost certainty from planning through closeout.
- 16Mentor junior estimators and contribute to best practices across the estimating function.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 27+ years of mechanical estimating, quantity surveying, cost management, or commercial management in construction.
- 3Experience on large-scale industrial, manufacturing, advanced technology, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or complex construction projects.
- 4Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, chilled water, process piping, utility infrastructure, and mechanical equipment.
- 5Proven ability to prepare estimates, quantity takeoffs, cost plans, change order evaluations, forecasting, and cost analysis.
- 6Experience reviewing contractor pricing, subcontractor proposals, procurement packages, and commercial change requests.
- 7Proficiency with estimating and quantity takeoff software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, CostX, OST, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- 8Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills thriving in a fast-paced environment.
- 9Cost management, forecasting, project controls, change management, and value engineering experience preferred.
- 10Professional certifications such as MRICS, CEP, CCE, PMP, or PE are a plus.
