Overview

Senior Designer in Jackets & Outerwear leads concept direction and development for a leading lifestyle brand at scale. You will shape silhouettes, fabric choices, trims, and embellishments while mentoring junior teammates. Work cross-functionally with Merchandising, Product Development, and Sourcing to ensure creative, executable designs that align with business objectives. This role blends creative vision with technical accuracy in a collaborative, design-forward environment.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build monthly concept direction for Jackets & Outerwear, including silhouette, fabric, wash, trim, artwork, and embellishment ideas
  • 2Edit the assortment to balance ideas against the business lineplan ensuring range, newness, emotional product, and commercial clarity
  • 3Create and present digital decks for design leadership with elevation, clarity, and efficiency
  • 4Lead technical design setups with attention to technical sketches, BOMs, design packages, construction notes, and pattern translation
  • 5Attend fittings and contribute to fit, construction, proportion, and detail problem-solving
  • 6Partner with Merchandising, Product Development, Technical Design, Production, and Sourcing to ensure designs are creative and executable
  • 7Mentor junior team members through research, sketching, design development, and package execution
  • 8Communicate ideas clearly in meetings to inspire confidence across Design, Merchandising, Production, and leadership
  • 9Demonstrate flexibility, curiosity, positivity, and a generous creative spirit in team work
  • 10Maintain strong fashion POV with deep understanding of Free People customer

Requirements6

  • 1Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion/Apparel Design preferred
  • 29+ years of industry experience in Jackets, Wovens, Outerwear, Dresses, or related category
  • 3Professional portfolio demonstrating jacket/outerwear design ability and technical understanding
  • 4Fluency in digital design tools including Adobe Creative Suite; experience with CAD, Procreate, AI-assisted design tools, PLM systems preferred
  • 5Ability to sketch and communicate design ideas clearly through hand or digital sketching, CAD, mock-ups
  • 6Ability to work on-site 3–5 days per week at World Headquarters in Philadelphia, PA
