Senior Data Scientist (Machine Learning) - Walmart
Overview
You will lead the development of machine learning models that power Search relevance, Personalization, and customer discovery at Walmart scale. You will apply deep learning, NLP, and Generative AI to transform how millions of customers find products. Collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Applied Science teams, you will drive AI roadmaps and deliver production-scale solutions. This role gives you ownership of complex modeling initiatives with direct impact on business performance.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and deploy machine learning models for Search, Ranking, Recommendations, and Personalization.
- 2Apply deep learning and NLP techniques to improve customer discovery.
- 3Lead experimentation using offline metrics and online A/B testing.
- 4Optimize model performance, scalability, and inference efficiency.
- 5Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Applied Scientists to define AI roadmaps.
- 6Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to engineering and modeling best practices.
- 7Drive production monitoring and continuous model improvements.
- 8Communicate technical recommendations to leadership and business stakeholders.
Requirements8
- 13+ years experience in analytics, with a Bachelor's in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field (or 1+ year with a Master's, or 5+ years experience).
- 23+ years building production machine learning systems with Python and SQL.
- 3Expertise in supervised learning, deep learning, feature engineering, and model optimization.
- 4Experience with Search, Recommendation Systems, Personalization, NLP, or Ranking.
- 5Familiarity with cloud-based ML platforms and MLOps.
- 6Experience designing experiments and interpreting business impact.
- 7Proficiency in distributed data processing with Spark or Scala.
- 8Experience with open source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
Salary Insight
$117 - $234k per year
