Senior Data Engineer, Snowflake & dbt
Overview
You own the enterprise data platform at Advanced Medical Management, a healthcare management organization serving provider networks. You design, build, and scale the Snowflake warehouse and dbt transformation layer that powers analytics for internal teams and external partners. You work with a small team of BI developers and report to the VP of IT, with direct influence over architecture and tooling. This role stands out because you drive the full lifecycle from data integration to governance, ensuring reliable data for decisions that impact patient care. You also lead the migration of legacy SQL Server processes to modern ELT pipelines on AWS.
What You'll Do9
- 1Own the enterprise data platform, including Snowflake, dbt, and the supporting ecosystem, ensuring high availability and data quality.
- 2Design and implement dbt models and transformation logic to create trusted, reusable datasets for Tableau dashboards and operational reporting.
- 3Build scalable ELT pipelines using Python and SQL to ingest data from SQL Server, vendor APIs, and flat files into Snowflake.
- 4Automate infrastructure and deployment processes using Terraform and GitHub Actions to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
- 5Establish data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to catch issues before they impact downstream consumers.
- 6Partner with business stakeholders and BI developers to translate requirements into robust data models and architecture decisions.
- 7Troubleshoot complex data issues across the stack, from source systems to the warehouse, ensuring reliable data flow.
- 8Drive adoption of data governance and HIPAA compliance by implementing row-level security and audit logging in Snowflake.
- 9Optimize query performance by reviewing execution plans and implementing clustering keys and materialized views where needed.
Requirements10
- 15+ years designing and supporting enterprise data platforms, with a focus on data warehousing and large-scale integration.
- 23+ years hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt in production environments.
- 3Expert proficiency in SQL and Python, including building data pipelines and automation scripts.
- 4Strong understanding of data modeling, ELT best practices, and data governance in a regulated environment.
- 5Hands-on experience with AWS services including S3, ECS, and Lambda for data processing and orchestration.
- 6Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines.
- 7Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.
- 8Prior experience in healthcare, MSO, or HIPAA-regulated settings is preferred.
- 9Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a track record of making independent technical decisions.
- 10Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience; work authorization in the US required.
