Overview
The successful candidate will own the design analysis implementation integration and validation of control systems for marine propulsion products. This hands-on role involves translating control concepts into production-ready implementations while supporting system integration testing and validation. You will collaborate with embedded software mechanical and systems engineers to develop solutions ranging from classical feedback controllers to modern model-based techniques.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design analyze and develop control systems for complex electro-mechanical applications
- 2Develop control strategies for propulsion steering and vessel control systems including gearboxes waterjets throttles trim tabs bow thrusters hydraulic systems
- 3Characterize and model dynamic system behavior through engineering analysis simulation and experimental testing to support controller design and validation
- 4Prototype and evaluate control algorithms using simulation and desktop software prior to production implementation
- 5Work closely with embedded software engineers to transition control algorithms into production firmware
- 6Design and implement classical and modern control algorithms including PID feedforward gain scheduling state-space and observer-based techniques
- 7Support hardware integration laboratory testing system tuning and sea trials
- 8Develop test plans and validation procedures to verify controller performance robustness and fault tolerance
- 9Investigate field performance resolve control-related issues and continuously improve system behavior and reliability
- 10Collaborate with electrical mechanical software and systems engineers throughout the product development lifecycle
- 11Prepare engineering documentation including design analyses technical specifications validation reports and interface documentation
Requirements11
- 1B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Controls Engineering Robotics Mechatronics or related discipline
- 2M.S. or Ph.D. with focus on Controls Dynamic Systems Robotics or related field preferred
- 3Demonstrated experience designing and implementing control systems for real-world electro-mechanical applications
- 4Ability to develop mathematical and simulation-based models of dynamic systems and apply first-principles engineering to practical control problems
- 5Strong analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- 6Comfortable working with hardware during system integration testing and validation
- 7Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 8Experience with MATLAB/Simulink Python C/C++ numerical methods and simulation data analysis and visualization
- 9Hands-on experience implementing or supporting control algorithms in embedded systems
- 10Knowledge of sensors instrumentation electric motors servo systems and hydraulic actuators communication networks such as CAN CANopen J1939 or NMEA 2000
- 11Familiarity with oscilloscopes logic analyzers and data acquisition equipment
