Overview

Lead advanced aerospace experimentation at the Naval Research Laboratory to directly impact high-priority Navy missions. Oversee ground and flight aerodynamics testing including subscale wind tunnel testing high-enthalpy tunnel testing full-scale vehicle wind tunnel testing and captive-carry sounding rocket experimentation. Define objectives mission requirements vehicle configurations instrumentation and data acquisition for ground and flight testing. Drive supersonic and hypersonic flight and ground experimentation initiatives.

What You'll Do11

  • 1Build and lead advanced aerospace experimentation programs
  • 2Design and execute subscale wind tunnel testing high-enthalpy tunnel testing full-scale vehicle wind tunnel testing and captive-carry sounding rocket experiments
  • 3Own and direct high-enthalpy tunnel testing initiatives
  • 4Define test objectives mission requirements vehicle configurations instrumentation and data acquisition strategies
  • 5Scale experimental methodologies for flight demonstrations
  • 6Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve mission success
  • 7Drive debugging of test processes and instrumentation systems
  • 8Drive delivery of complex aerospace test campaigns from definition through execution
  • 9Maintain rigorous documentation of test results and findings
  • 10Mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence within the test division
  • 11Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards during testing activities

Requirements11

  • 1U.S. citizenship and active Secret clearance with TS preference
  • 2Minimum 10 years of experience in aerospace experimentation
  • 3Direct experience in supersonic and hypersonic flight and ground testing
  • 4Proven track record with relevant test facilities such as wind tunnels
  • 5Expertise in complex aerospace test campaigns including setup and execution
  • 6Comprehensive knowledge of aerospace test instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • 7Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • 8Demonstrated problem-solving abilities under pressure
  • 9Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • 10Commitment to delivering results on schedule and within budget
