Overview

Linux based Security Engineer role focusing on RHEL operations within a DHS environment. Own system operations, security management, and log collection to strengthen confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems. Work with a SOC engineering team on automating and managing a large fleet of servers and devices.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and harden RHEL systems across the enterprise to support security monitoring and incident response
  • 2Design and implement event collection tiers, normalization, and correlation to provide a unified security view
  • 3Lead software management and patching processes to keep core services secure and compliant
  • 4Drive file and directory management, user/group controls, and access policies to enforce least privilege
  • 5Scale automation scripts and playbooks with Ansible to operate a large DHS environment
  • 6Ship and maintain security configurations for firewalls, SELinux, and system hardening
  • 7Debug and resolve security events, breaches, and anomalous activity with measurable improvements
  • 8Own ongoing O&M for hardware and software, from concept to retirement, ensuring reliability
  • 9Improve log collection via Splunk for security analytics and incident response
  • 10Collaborate with cross-functional teams to map security requirements to technical controls

Requirements9

  • 1At least three years of experience in security focused IT engineering
  • 2At least three years of experience in operations, management, monitoring and maintenance of network security devices (firewalls, VPNs, IDS, proxies)
  • 3At least three years of practical experience implementing security policies and baselines across Windows, Linux, and network gear
  • 4Thorough understanding of Linux-based systems to perform O&M for Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers
  • 5Proficiency with Linux Admin, Ansible, Splunk Admin, and virtualization (VMware)
  • 6Experience with log collection, SIEMs, and security event analysis
  • 7Clearance: SECRET required upon hire; US citizenship
  • 8Education and Certifications: Microsoft, Linux or Cisco certifications (examples include MCSE or CCNP)
  • 9Must be legally allowed to work in the US and onsite 1-2 days per week in Herndon, VA
