Robotics Engineer, Hardware Integrations | $7-$8/hr Remote
Overview
A Robotics Engineer in Hardware Integrations helps bridge the gap between physical platforms and software. You’ll bring up new robotic systems, integrate sensors, and design data pipelines so researchers can quickly prototype and deploy capabilities. This role centers on enabling real world learning and scalable robotics, with a focus on ROS 2, teleoperation, and video streaming in a remote-friendly setup.
What You'll Do9
- 1Set up and sustain robotic platforms such as humanoids, manipulators, mobile robots, and custom end effectors.
- 2Create and maintain robust ROS 2 integrations, hardware SDK connections, and control interfaces.
- 3Build scalable pipelines for multimodal data including RGB, depth, IMU, force/torque, and joint telemetry using formats like ROS Bag, HDF5, Parquet, and MP4.
- 4Develop low latency teleoperation systems with strong observability and operator experience.
- 5Establish reliable real-time video streaming infrastructure using WebRTC, RTSP, FFmpeg, GStreamer, and HLS.
- 6Integrate and calibrate perception hardware including RealSense, OAK-D, ZED, FLIR, and various camera interfaces.
- 7Troubleshoot hardware, networking, and system issues across lab and remote deployments to support bring-up and fleet operations.
- 8Improve developer tooling, automation, and documentation to boost reliability and research velocity.
- 9Collaborate with researchers and engineers to rapidly prototype and test new robotic capabilities.
Requirements9
- 1Proficiency in Python and C++, with familiarity in another language such as C#.
- 2Strong experience with ROS 2, Ubuntu/Linux, Docker, Git, and shell scripting.
- 3Hands-on background in hardware integration via vendor SDKs and low-level APIs.
- 4Solid grasp of networking basics including TCP/IP, SSH, VPNs, REST/gRPC, and WebSockets.
- 5Experience building teleoperation systems and real-time video streaming solutions.
- 6Experience with multimodal sensors such as RGB, depth, stereo, and IMU, and calibrations.
- 7Familiarity with cloud storage for large robotics datasets (e.g., AWS S3 or similar).
- 8Proven debugging skills across hardware, software, networking, and embedded systems.
- 9Comfort in a fast paced, experimental environment where priorities shift.
