Overview

You will own nursing care for critically ill neonates across three Henry Ford Health hospitals in Detroit, Michigan, with the flexibility to select your shifts and float among locations. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care while managing complex patient needs and supporting families. This role combines clinical autonomy with premium pay, online self-scheduling, and a contingent contract, setting it apart with the opportunity to work across diverse NICUs without a fixed unit assignment. Minimum commitment: two 12-hour shifts per month.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Lead coordination and delivery of quality, compassionate patient care in the NICU, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • 2Document and teach patients and families, ensuring they understand treatment plans and neonatal care practices.
  • 3Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to share patient/family information and coordinate care across shifts and locations.
  • 4Identify variances from patient goals and implement solutions to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • 5Perform a wide range of professional nursing services, adapting to different NICU environments and acuity levels.
  • 6Float among three selected hospitals, maintaining high standards of care and collaboration in each setting.
  • 7Drive quality improvement by participating in care plan adjustments and patient safety initiatives.
  • 8Serve as a clinical resource for less experienced staff, demonstrating expertise in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response.

Requirements7

  • 124-36 months of recent NICU experience
  • 2Current Michigan State Board of Nursing license
  • 3Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • 4Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA
  • 5Ability to float between three hospitals
  • 6Clinical knowledge and analytical ability to formulate effective nursing care plans
  • 7Strong communication skills for patients, families, and hospital personnel
