Overview

You will own daily operations at Walkabout, an emergency shelter for youth ages 16 to 20 in Nassau County. You will provide crisis intervention, case management, and outreach to runaway and homeless youth, helping them access safe housing and avoid trafficking. You will collaborate with Nassau Haven and Walkabout staff to coordinate services and support youth transitions. This role combines direct counseling with community outreach, requiring a valid NYS driver's license and a commitment to youth wellness.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Engage runaway and homeless youth through street outreach, offering gateway services and shelter options to reduce trafficking risk.
  • 2Provide ongoing transition coaching and after-care support to former residents, ensuring their stability and safety.
  • 3Transport youth to the shelter and arrange referrals, following up to confirm their needs are met.
  • 4Coordinate with Nassau Haven and Walkabout staff to help youth exit the streets and secure stable housing.
  • 5Encourage youth connections to RHY systems of care by explaining services using your own experiences.
  • 6Facilitate use of natural and community resources, and promote wellness through role modeling to help youth make safe choices.
  • 7Complete and submit paperwork in compliance with program and FYSB RHY-MIS requirements.
  • 8Attend all required Agency, regulatory, and program meetings and trainings.
  • 9Represent the Agency or program as needed.

  • 1High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2Basic computer skills.
  • 31 year of experience working with youth or young adults.
  • 4Valid NYS driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history.
