Registered Nurse, Primary Care Pediatrics
Overview
You will own patient assessments and direct care at Texas Children's Pediatrics at Katy, serving 100+ patients daily in a busy outpatient setting. You will work alongside pediatricians, LVNs, and medical assistants to deliver age-appropriate care. Your role starts with gathering vital signs and documenting histories, then expands to medication administration and patient education. This position stands out for its emphasis on triaging phone calls and coordinating referrals, giving you a full spectrum of clinical experience.
What You'll Do9
- 1Collect patient data including vital signs, height/weight, and reason for visit, documenting with 100% accuracy in the EPIC system.
- 2Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during treatments, tests, and exams within site protocol.
- 3Administer medications and immunizations as ordered, charting each dose and reporting any errors to the supervisor immediately.
- 4Teach patients and families about diagnoses and care plans, documenting all education in the medical record.
- 5Coordinate referrals by providing contact info and required documents to families, ensuring seamless follow-up.
- 6Triage walk-in patients and phone calls, prioritizing urgency and documenting every interaction per organization standards.
- 7Collect and process lab specimens using proper technique, verifying orders and reporting results per protocol.
- 8Demonstrate service excellence by introducing yourself, explaining visit steps, and setting time expectations for families.
- 9Pass respiratory fit testing as part of the hospital's safety protocols, ensuring readiness for patient care.
Requirements7
- 1Diploma in Nursing or associate degree accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for RN licensure
- 2RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
- 3BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- 4PALS certification from the American Heart Association
- 5Preferred bachelor's degree in nursing
- 61+ years experience in pediatric outpatient care (preferred)
- 7EPIC proficiency with charting and documentation (preferred)
