R&D Systems Engineer - National Security Space Systems
Overview
The R&D Systems Engineer leads Systems Engineering & Technical Advisory support for the U.S. Government focusing on next generation national security space systems. This role bridges legacy ground capabilities with emerging technologies while scouting industry trends and forming partnerships to introduce disruptive automation and data orchestration capabilities. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape cutting-edge satellite ground systems.
What You'll Do11
- 1Own the full lifecycle of satellite edge computing and ground systems with emphasis on automation processing and orchestration
- 2Conduct technical analysis of ground system concepts architectures and emerging technologies
- 3Review and contribute to design modeling and analysis for orchestration task scheduling and high throughput data processing
- 4Evaluate and optimize data processing workflows from satellite downlink to final dissemination
- 5Assess machine learning and AI integration to enhance data exploitation and automate ground system functions
- 6Implement quantization methods GGUF AWQ EXL2 for high performance model execution on constrained hardware
- 7Provide technical expertise across project lifecycle including concept development system definition acquisition planning development integration and testing
- 8Identify bottlenecks to meet system requirements and perform cost trade analysis using frameworks like llama.cpp vLL and Ollama
- 9Scout vet and curate state of the art technologies and research organizations for collaboration
- 10Formulate recommendations for academic commercial and specialized contractor groups to design and scale capabilities
- 11Drive innovation through active participation in enterprise-wide R&D environment
Requirements9
- 1Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph clearance requirement
- 2Bachelor's degree with 5+ years relevant experience or Master's with 3+ years or PhD with 0+ years
- 35+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
- 4Expertise in satellite ground system architecture operations and inference pipelines
- 5Proficiency in Python PyTorch TensorFlow and multi modal LLMs
- 6Strong analytical skills critical thinking problem solving and communication abilities
- 7Experience with space to ground communications links data routing and overhead sensor data processing
- 8Familiarity with AI ML technologies quantization hardware performance monitoring and data analysis
- 9Vendor evaluation experience RFPs and technical interface management with external contractors
