R&D Engineer, Aerogel & Materials Testing
Overview
You will own the development and execution of aerogel testing methods, from routine characterization to advanced thermal and mechanical analysis. You'll work within Aspen's R&D department, supporting the PyroThin, Cryogel, and Pyrogel product lines. You'll build and assemble custom test apparatus, analyze large data sets, and translate lab-scale results into manufacturing reality. This role requires a hands-on approach in a chemical lab, balancing scheduled testing with independent projects. You'll join a collaborative team driving clean energy and electric vehicle solutions.
What You'll Do9
- 1Execute established testing methods for aerogel materials to meet time-sensitive R&D deadlines.
- 2Develop and validate new thermal and mechanical test procedures, documenting results in written reports.
- 3Compile and analyze large datasets to identify performance trends and troubleshoot complex problems.
- 4Design and assemble non-standard test equipment using mechanical tools and lab instruments.
- 5Plan and execute assigned technical projects under the direction of the Advanced Testing Manager.
- 6Maintain and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and national codes.
- 7Support scale-up activities from bench to pilot, transferring aerogel processing technologies.
- 8Contribute to research proposals, intellectual property generation, and cross-functional corporate goals.
- 9Track project milestones, budgets, and schedules, reporting progress to stakeholders.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 22+ years experience in materials characterization, testing, or process development.
- 3Hands-on experience with mechanical systems and lab equipment.
- 4Proficiency in data analysis, design of experiments, and statistical methods.
- 5Experience with bench-to-pilot scale-up activities.
- 6Ability to work independently and within a team, managing multiple projects.
- 7Excellent written and oral communication skills for presenting research.
- 8Proactive problem-solving and a self-starter attitude.
- 9Commitment to safe laboratory practices, including PPE use and chemical handling.
Salary Insight
$90 - $105k per year
