Working primarily outdoors, you'll use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments to keep freight cars rolling. You'll report to the line supervisor and have a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. This role offers a $28/hour starting pay and a mandatory 4-week training program.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Repair and modify railcars, rebuilding components like bolsters, side frames, and hitch heads.
  • 2Weld up to 30% of the time, fabricating parts and using cutting torches.
  • 3Perform mechanical labor frequently, including heavy lifting of parts up to 80 lbs.
  • 4Inspect machines and equipment visually and by touch to diagnose issues.
  • 5Operate a forklift to move and align parts for installation.
  • 6Measure, cut, and thread pipes, and replace air lines using hand tools.
  • 7Assemble subassemblies and major components, checking function for proper operation.
  • 8Enter car repair information via electronic keyboard system.
  • 9Maintain a clean work environment and set up metalworking tools as needed.
  • 10Comply with AAR, FRA, and TTX standards, performing each job to time standards.

Requirements10

  • 1Mechanical skills and knowledge of heavy equipment repair.
  • 2Welding and cutting skills, with ability to pass a welding test.
  • 3Troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems.
  • 4Automotive repair and service systems experience.
  • 5Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for 8-10 hour shifts.
  • 6Physical ability to stand, handle, and lift up to 80 lbs, with frequent lifting of 10-25 lbs.
  • 7Willingness to attend a mandatory 4-week training program after hire.
  • 8Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and shift changes.
  • 9Own steel-toe shoes, hard hat, earplugs, safety glasses, and proper clothing.
  • 10Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
