QC Manager, Food Manufacturing & SQF
Overview
You will own quality control for a food manufacturing client, overseeing testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished products while ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards. You will lead a QC team, serve as the SQF Practitioner and plant HACCP Coordinator, and drive continuous improvement in food safety. This role sits at the intersection of operations and compliance, reporting to the Quality Director and collaborating with Production, Sanitation, and Technical Services. The position offers $90,000 to $120,000 annually and requires presence onsite in Los Angeles.
What You'll Do10
- 1Hire, train, and manage QC personnel, setting performance expectations and conducting formal evaluations within the first 90 days.
- 2Review quality control test results and make disposition decisions for raw materials and finished products, collaborating with other departments.
- 3Develop procedures to utilize rework and obsolete materials in current production, aiming for zero waste and compliance.
- 4Monitor batch records for accuracy and prepare Certificate of Analysis documentation as required.
- 5Maintain QC laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring proper standardization and record keeping.
- 6Audit labels for compliance with State and Federal regulations, catching issues before release.
- 7Train employees on cGMPs, allergens, and cleaning procedures, embedding food safety into daily habits.
- 8Monitor and track cleaning practices of Sanitation and Production departments, improving effectiveness.
- 9Perform monthly GMP, Glass, and Hard Plastics Audits, documenting findings and corrective actions.
- 10Collaborate with the Technical Manager on internal audits and resolution of customer complaints related to product quality.
Requirements9
- 1B.A. or B.S. degree in a science discipline required.
- 23-5 years of supervisory experience in the food industry; flavor processing background is a plus.
- 3Familiarity with general lab analytical equipment for food sample testing.
- 4HACCP Certified or ability to achieve certification rapidly.
- 5SQF Practitioner certified or equivalent knowledge through training.
- 6PCQI Certification or ability to achieve certification rapidly.
- 7Visual acuity to evaluate sample appearance and use lab instruments.
- 8Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- 9Ability to report to any client facility as needed; primary location is the San Fernando facility.
