Project Engineer - Building Enclosure
Overview
You will own building enclosure projects from design through construction administration, managing multiple simultaneous assignments for REI Engineers in Raleigh, NC. You will apply engineering principles to collect field data, perform calculations, and prepare construction documents, then oversee contractor work to ensure compliance. With 4+ years of professional engineering experience and a PE license, you will also conduct assessments and investigations using infrared cameras and moisture meters. This role stands out for its blend of design, field work, and client interaction, plus support toward Registered Consultant certification.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare engineering documents for construction, collecting and analyzing field data of existing conditions to determine design parameters and cost-effective solutions.
- 2Perform construction administration: lead initial contractor meetings, evaluate bids for relevance, and recommend award to clients.
- 3Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with engineered documents, coordinating deficiency resolutions with contractors.
- 4Identify, evaluate, and implement solutions for conflicts that arise during the construction process.
- 5Conduct assessments and investigations: set up testing apparatuses, direct destructive openings in roofing and wall systems, and document conditions and deficiencies.
- 6Review and seal project specifications for accuracy and compliance with NC State Statutes.
- 7Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality across projects.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- 2Professional Engineer (PE) license in NC or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- 34+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably with a consulting or engineering firm.
- 4Working knowledge of materials and installation processes for roofing, wall, and other envelope assemblies.
- 5Working knowledge of Building Codes and engineering calculations, with the ability to apply these to field conditions.
- 6Ability to operate assessment equipment such as infrared cameras, electrical capacitance meters, and water testing units.
- 7Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and client presentations.
- 8Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and general computer skills.
- 9Physical ability to climb ladders, stand for prolonged periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- 10Building Commission experience and progress toward Registered Consultant certification is a plus.
