Professional Land Surveyor, NY/NJ PLS - MCFA
Overview
You will own all phases of land surveying projects across New York and New Jersey, from proposal through final deliverables. As Survey Manager, you will lead field crews and office technicians, certify survey documents, and ensure compliance with state regulations. You will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients on transportation, infrastructure, and municipal projects. Your PLS license in NY/NJ will be central to your role, with FAA Part 107 and LiDAR skills as differentiators. This role offers hybrid flexibility and direct impact on firm-wide surveying standards.
What You'll Do10
- 1Manage all site survey phases from kickoff to final deliverables, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, right-of-way, utility, and as-built surveys.
- 2Prepare, review, sign, and seal survey documents per New York and New Jersey licensing rules.
- 3Supervise field crews and office technicians, assigning tasks and checking quality.
- 4Plan and coordinate survey activities with engineering, environmental, and construction management teams.
- 5Utilize GPS, robotic total stations, terrestrial scanning, and UAV data to capture accurate field measurements.
- 6Review deeds, plats, easements, and title reports to resolve boundary issues.
- 7Drive project schedules, budgets, and client communications to meet deadlines.
- 8Mentor junior staff, assist in recruiting, and develop the firm's surveying talent.
- 9Support proposal preparation, fee development, and business development activities.
- 10Develop and maintain surveying standards, procedures, and quality control processes.
Requirements8
- 1Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in New York or New Jersey.
- 26+ years of progressive land surveying experience.
- 32+ years of project management experience in surveying.
- 4Bachelor's or Associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- 5Strong understanding of boundary law, land records research, and survey computations.
- 6Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- 7Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- 8Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout NY/NJ.
Salary Insight
