Principal Software Engineer, AI Platform
Overview
You own platform architecture for an AI operating system in specialty pharmacy, serving enterprise health systems live on the platform. Leading a new Orlando engineering hub, you set technical standards and drive AI integration across product and engineering. Working with a VP from DeepMind/Google and a founder CEO, you shape a greenfield codebase with no legacy debt. This role blends hands-on coding with strategic ownership, with significant equity from day one.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design systems that handle 10-100x growth without a rewrite, ensuring scalability and resilience.
- 2Establish engineering patterns for the wider team, setting the bar for code quality and architecture.
- 3Lead AI model selection, latency and cost tradeoffs, and evaluation methodology for all AI features.
- 4Define the quality and safety bar for AI in clinical workflows and voice agents, owning the AI roadmap.
- 5Partner with product leadership to shape the product roadmap, pushing back on low-leverage efforts.
- 6Drive cross-team initiatives focused on product outcomes, not just ticket completion.
- 7Mentor engineers in the Orlando hub, leading by example and fostering technical growth.
- 8Debug and optimize critical paths in the codebase, ensuring reliability and performance.
Requirements8
- 15+ years building complex systems from scratch, with hands-on coding ability.
- 2Strong engineering judgment, framing decisions in business terms and knowing when to move fast.
- 3Proven AI fluency: shipped AI-powered products and use AI tooling daily.
- 4High agency: self-directed, identifying and executing what needs to be done without waiting for tickets.
- 5US-based or willing to relocate to Orlando, Florida.
- 6Experience with Python, AWS, and Kubernetes in production environments.
- 7Track record of leading system design for high-growth platforms.
- 8Excellent communication skills, able to articulate tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
