Overview
Join Lorenz Clinic's nationally recognized, two-year Post-Master's Fellowship in Minneapolis–St. Paul, a paid training position for pre-licensed therapists pursuing LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC licensure. You will carry a caseload of 12–18 clients while receiving 8 hours of monthly supervision, attending a monthly PMF Seminar, and participating in weekly didactics and grand rounds. This role prioritizes clinical formation over billable hours, with a structured curriculum addressing all 16 APA Competency Benchmark domains. Become part of a small, interprofessional cohort selected from over a thousand applicants, and train in relational, systemic, and developmentally informed psychotherapy. The fellowship builds toward a career as a psychotherapist, not a generalist, with a focus on case formulation and therapeutic relationship repair.
What You'll Do10
- 1Provide individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy to a caseload of 12–18 clients, building gradually in the first months.
- 2Attend 8 hours of supervision monthly: 4 hours with a doctorally prepared psychologist, 4 with a licensed professional supervisor.
- 3Participate in the monthly 8-hour PMF Seminar, integrating didactic content, experiential activities, and small-group discussion.
- 4Engage in weekly 1-hour didactic seminars with doctoral psychology interns on topics like family systems, attachment, and trauma.
- 5Present cases and attend monthly Grand Rounds and 4-hour case consultation sessions with specialist-led feedback.
- 6Develop a second-order theory of change, using the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for transformation.
- 7Actively collaborate with supervisors, bringing real cases to consultation and naming uncertainties.
- 8Work toward licensure by accumulating supervised clinical hours across the two-year program.
- 9Participate in the cohort model, sharing learning with peers from counseling, MFT, social work, and psychology.
- 10Contribute to clinic-wide training activities and engage in continuing education opportunities.
Requirements8
- 1Master's degree in psychology, clinical counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or related field from a regionally accredited program.
- 29-12 months of clinic-based practicum or internship where outpatient psychotherapy was the primary activity, prior to start date.
- 3Completion of a clinically focused practicum including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing therapeutic work. Placements primarily remote or telehealth are not considered.
- 4Declared licensure track: LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC in Minnesota. Social work track applicants must hold a current, non-provisional LGSW by start date.
- 5LICSW-track applicants: A social work degree alone is insufficient. Placements focused on case management or generalist social work do not qualify.
- 6Preferred: Prior preparation in systems thinking, group relations, or relational and psychodynamic intervention models.
- 7Bilingual candidates strongly preferred to expand access for underserved communities.
- 8Demonstrated commitment to the profession and the common good, as shown in a required cover letter.
