Physics & Hardware Systems Engineer (SATCOM)
Overview
You will architect and deploy advanced RF satellite communication systems for ThinKom, a leader in high-performance connectivity across air, land, sea, and space. You'll own the end-to-end development lifecycle, from system architecture and component evaluation to integration and production delivery. You'll work within an Integrated Product Team alongside Program Managers and tier-one defense and commercial partners, driving critical programs for SATCOM and HPM applications. This role demands hands-on hardware expertise and a commitment to solving complex RF challenges in demanding environments. You'll see your designs go from napkin sketch to physical deployment, making a direct impact on global connectivity.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead architectural assessments and define component interactions for complex SATCOM payloads and terminals, establishing seamless physical, functional, and program interfaces.
- 2Evaluate critical RF sub-assemblies and COTS components, including antennas, LNBs, HPAs, up/down-converters, multiplexers, reference oscillators, and PLLs, to ensure performance and reliability.
- 3Direct requirements flow-down, matrix traceability, and verification testing to ensure integrated solutions meet performance, reliability, usability, and security needs.
- 4Lead requirements IPTs and working group sessions with customers and suppliers, presenting key design reviews (PDR/CDR) and driving technical decisions.
- 5Support multiple active programs through conceptual design, detailed engineering, integration, and final production delivery, balancing technical excellence with program execution.
- 6Refine system analysis, monitoring routines, and test frameworks to continuously elevate team execution and product performance.
- 7Connect engineering disciplines to ensure successful system integration, anticipating technical risks early and developing practical, data-driven solutions.
- 8Communicate technical ideas clearly with engineers, customers, and program leadership, fostering trusted relationships across teams.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 22+ years of systems engineering experience architecting, developing, and validating complex RF communication systems.
- 3Subject-matter expertise in RF SATCOM systems with deep familiarity with key RF components such as amplifiers, converters, oscillators, and antennas.
- 4Hands-on experience operating Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and standard RF test equipment.
- 5U.S. Citizenship with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
- 6Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to present complex technical data clearly in design reviews and customer meetings.
- 7Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills suited for multi-program environments.
