Overview

This Patient Care Technician (PCT) role in Dallas, TX, owns the full dialysis treatment cycle, from vascular access cannulation to machine setup and patient monitoring, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. You will operate hemodialysis machines, manage Ultrafiltration (UF) settings, and ensure safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits are enabled. Working within a Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), you will support continuous improvement and infection control initiatives. This position includes a structured transition to the Transitional Care Unit, where you will guide new patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and educate them on home dialysis options. You will act as a liaison between patients and staff, coordinating care and ensuring a smooth start to treatment.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated, monitor intradialytic problems, and intervene per orders while documenting response to therapy.
  • 2Set up and operate hemodialysis machines, including programming UF goals, treatment time, and UF modeling, and enabling safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits.
  • 3Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and vascular access evaluations, and assess patients before discharge to ensure readiness.
  • 4Document treatment data on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and enter all data into the designated clinical application accurately and timely.
  • 5Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, and equipment between treatments, and perform all required pre-treatment machine alarm tests, including Pressure Holding.
  • 6Prepare and label lab specimens, ensure proper transport, and collect lab requisitions for prescribed or stat tests.
  • 7Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision, and assist in training applicable direct patient care staff.
  • 8Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis in the Transitional Care Unit, reinforcing education on disease process, access, and treatment options.
  • 9Support infection control audits and educate patients and families on infection prevention practices under direction of the clinical manager.
  • 10Drive continuous quality improvement by participating in CQI activities and ensuring documentation completeness.

Requirements9

  • 1High School diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • 2Must meet CMS-approved state or national certification requirements within the required timeline.
  • 3Previous patient care experience in a hospital or related setting is preferred.
  • 4Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program required for continued employment.
  • 5CPR certification required for continued employment.
  • 6Pass the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment, with reasonable accommodations considered.
  • 7Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs with assist devices.
  • 8Willingness to travel between assigned facilities and attend meetings as needed.
  • 9Commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards.
