Patient Care Technician - Neuro Trauma and Neurosurgery
Overview
You will deliver routine patient care on 5G Neuro Trauma and 6D Neurosurgery units at UPMC Presbyterian. Support a 22-bed progressive care unit for complex brain and spinal trauma and an 18-bed neurosurgical unit for spinal and craniotomy recovery. What You'll Do7
- 1Perform ADLs including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients.
- 2Take vital signs, perform simple dressings, 12-lead EKGs, bladder scans, and collect specimens.
- 3Assist nurses and physicians in maintaining high-quality patient care following established protocols.
- 4Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- 5Ensure patient and workplace safety, demonstrating professionalism and productive relationships.
- 6Support therapies and patient instruction under RN guidance, documenting information accurately.
- 7Complete clerical tasks and other duties in a timely manner.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2Successful completion of UPMC Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or EIC training program.
- 3Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
- 4Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- 5CNA, EMT, or Paramedic certification preferred, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program.
- 6BLS or CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
- 7Act 34 clearance required.
