Patient Care Assistant, Inpatient Pediatric Unit
Overview
You will own direct patient care on an inpatient pediatric unit, supporting nurses with wound care, skin care, and daily routines for children up to age 18. You will work alongside a team of specialists at Shriners Children's Chicago, part of a network recognized as the 2025 best mid-sized employer by Forbes. This part-time role (48 hours bi-weekly) offers stable day shifts with rotating weekends and holidays. What You'll Do8
- 1Deliver direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including bathing, feeding, and mobility support for pediatric patients.
- 2Perform wound and skin care as delegated, monitoring for changes and reporting to the nursing team.
- 3Keep patient units and work areas fully stocked with supplies, ensuring readiness for procedures and emergencies.
- 4Document patient observations and care provided, maintaining accurate records in the electronic health system.
- 5Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team, demonstrating empathy and professionalism at all times.
- 6Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, helping families settle in and understand unit routines.
- 7Follow infection control protocols and safety standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- 8Support the nursing team with delegated tasks such as vital signs, specimen collection, and patient positioning.
Requirements7
- 1High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2Certified as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) in the state of Illinois.
- 3Hold a current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- 41 year of pediatric experience in a clinical setting.
- 5Ability to lift and transfer patients, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks.
- 6Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with children and families.
- 7Flexibility to work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.
