Paraprofessional ATTAIN Program Beverly Public Schools
Overview
You will provide direct instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students with intensive needs in the ATTAIN program, a substantially separate classroom serving students with cognitive delays or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Working under a certified teacher, you will implement individualized strategies and interventions, reinforce academic material, and assist with self-help and independence skills. You will collaborate with a dedicated team to create a safe and inclusive learning environment, and your role will include classroom support, behavior monitoring, and assistance with daily routines. What You'll Do11
- 1Prepare classroom instructional events and activities under the direction of a certified teacher, ensuring materials are ready for lessons.
- 2Implement teacher-designed special strategies and interventions to reinforce learning goals, adapting to each student's needs and abilities.
- 3Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher, support self-help and independence, and guide remedial or enrichment exercises.
- 4Assist students in mastering assigned tasks, including test preparation, tape-recording books, reading aloud, and observing student performance to inform instruction.
- 5Apply curriculum modifications and accommodations designed by professional staff, including discrete trials for skill development.
- 6Accompany students to lunch, recess, and nurse's office as needed and support physical tasks when required.
- 7Handle non-instructional duties such as attendance, classroom supervision, escorting students, correcting papers, proctoring tests, and providing make-up work assistance.
- 8Support toileting and diaper changes, and manage other clerical duties related to classroom organization and instruction.
- 9Supervise students during fire drills, assemblies, and corridor transitions, and assist in emergency assignments as directed by the principal.
- 10Set up and operate instructional and assistive technology equipment under teacher direction, and participate in professional development activities.
- 11Serve as a resource person to teachers, sharing observations about student performance and learning behaviors to inform instructional decisions.
Requirements7
- 1At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- 2Ability to develop positive relationships with students and collaborate effectively with school staff.
- 3General understanding of how children learn and how to support social and emotional needs.
- 4Willingness to assist with toileting and other personal care tasks.
- 5Successful completion of CORI and SORI background checks and fingerprint-based national criminal history check.
- 6Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- 7Availability to work onsite in Beverly, Massachusetts.
