Orthopedic Technician, Casting & Bracing
Overview
You will own splinting, casting, and bracing for clinic, hospital, and surgery patients at Austin Regional Clinic, a top Central Texas employer with 35+ locations. You will work under physician supervision, manage insurance authorizations, and support surgical procedures. This role offers a Monday-Friday schedule and mileage reimbursement. What You'll Do8
- 1Apply splints and casts, fitting and molding braces with patient instruction on use and care.
- 2Obtain insurance authorizations for orthopedic devices and order specialty patient equipment.
- 3Perform telephone triage for cast, splint, and wound issues, providing patient education as appropriate.
- 4Set up equipment and supplies, assist with in-office surgical procedures, and participate in sterile techniques.
- 5Assist nurses with patient flow, schedule diagnostic testing, and transport patients as needed.
- 6Maintain inventory, receive vendors, and evaluate new orthopedic products.
- 7Scrub with physicians during procedures and dispose of contaminated items per OSHA guidelines.
- 8Stock and maintain cast rooms, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or GED required; experience in a physician's office or hospital preferred.
- 2Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card or obtain within 60 days of hire.
- 3Working knowledge of managed care basics and experience with managed care and Medicare populations.
- 4Ability to carry 20 pounds and lift 5 pounds overhead.
- 5Strong computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.
- 6Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
- 7Ability to troubleshoot problems and make decisions without direct supervision.
- 8Flexibility to cross-cover within an assigned work group and handle competing priorities.
