Ornamental Metal Fabricator, Custom Iron Work & Welding
Overview
You will own custom fabrication of ornamental iron and structural steel pieces in a non-union shop that ships high-end railings, gates, and stairs across residential and commercial projects. You will work alongside a small team of fabricators and welders using carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, bronze, and brass. This role stands out because you will hand forge items and operate plasma cutters and grinders daily, with no two projects alike.
What You'll Do7
- 1Layout projects from blueprints, measure, cut, saw, and bend steel and aluminum to precise tolerances.
- 2Prepare, fit, and weld carbon steel and stainless steel components on railings, gates, and stairs.
- 3Operate plasma cutters and hand grinders to shape and finish metal edges and joints.
- 4Hand forge decorative elements on request, applying blacksmithing techniques to match custom designs.
- 5Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform routine maintenance on shop tools.
- 6Collaborate with the team to sequence fabrication and installation for on-time delivery.
- 7Lift and move materials weighing over 50 pounds safely using proper techniques.
Requirements7
- 15+ years in ornamental metal fabrication or installation, with a portfolio of custom work.
- 2AWS certification or equivalent welding experience with MIG and TIG on steel.
- 3Proven ability to read blueprints and execute precise measurements.
- 4Hands-on experience with plasma cutting and hand grinding.
- 5Strong English communication, both written and verbal, to follow technical instructions.
- 6Comfortable lifting 50+ pounds and standing for extended periods.
- 7Valid driver's license for occasional local deliveries and installations.
