What You'll Do8

  • 1Conduct pre-screening tests and preliminary examinations on patients, including visual field testing and retinal screenings.
  • 2Explain preliminary exam steps to patients, ensuring they understand each test before the doctor's examination.
  • 3Complete necessary paperwork and document patient information accurately in the electronic health record system.
  • 4Review prescriptions and patient histories to identify special needs and flag concerns for the optician or doctor.
  • 5Maintain a clean, professional exam room and ensure pretest equipment is calibrated and sanitized.
  • 6Promote vision health by suggesting retinal screenings to eligible patients during intake.
  • 7Collaborate with opticians, doctors, and retail management to streamline patient flow and address issues.
  • 8Learn and apply optical abbreviations and ocular disease terminology in daily charting and communication.

Requirements8

  • 11+ years of retail or customer service experience, optical background preferred but not required.
  • 2Strong customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • 3Ability to learn medical terminology and optical equipment quickly through provided training.
  • 4Clear communication skills to instruct patients and explain procedures in simple terms.
  • 5Effective interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with doctors and team members.
