Optical Lab Technician - Eyeglass Fabrication & Repair
Overview
You will own the fabrication and repair of prescription eyeglasses at a high-volume optical lab in Los Angeles. You will work with surfacing and finishing equipment to shape lenses and assemble frames. You will join a team of 5+ technicians and report to the lab manager. Express Lens Lab serves 100+ retail customers daily. This role offers hands-on experience with automated edgers and digital lensometers. You will ensure every pair meets ISO quality standards before shipping.
What You'll Do10
- 1Adjust, repair, and fabricate eyeglasses using automated edgers, hand tools, and frame warmers.
- 2Read and execute work orders to grind, polish, and edge lenses to prescription specifications.
- 3Verify lens power and axis with digital lensometers and calipers to meet tolerance.
- 4Assemble frames and lenses, tightening screws and aligning temples for a secure fit.
- 5Troubleshoot equipment jams and recalibrate surfacing generators to minimize downtime.
- 6Clean and maintain workstations and tools, following OSHA safety protocols.
- 7Document production data in the LensTrac system for quality tracking.
- 8Collaborate with 2 other technicians to meet daily production goals of 150 pairs.
- 9Conduct final visual inspection under magnification and resolve defects before packaging.
- 10Lift and move boxes of lenses and frames weighing up to 25 pounds.
Requirements8
- 11+ years of optical laboratory experience or 2+ years in a precision manufacturing role.
- 2Working knowledge of surfacing and finishing processes, including lensometry and edging.
- 3Ability to read and interpret prescriptions and work orders accurately.
- 4Proficiency with measuring tools like calipers and thickness gauges.
- 5Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail for precise lens and frame handling.
- 6Ability to stand and walk for 8+ hours per shift and lift 25 pounds regularly.
- 7Basic computer skills to log data in spreadsheets and inventory systems.
- 8Excellent communication skills to coordinate with retail store customers and team members.
