We seek a cross trained Paleontological and Archaeological Monitor to lead field monitoring for infrastructure projects across Southern California. This on call role supports diverse sectors while ensuring regulatory compliance. Ideal candidate works remotely and onsite in Long Beach.
What You'll Do5
- 1Conduct paleontological and archaeological monitoring during ground disturbing activities
- 2Identify document and recover fossils and cultural resources in the field
- 3Maintain detailed field notes fossil locality forms site forms and monitoring logs
- 4Coordinate with project managers environmental teams and construction personnel
- 5Ensure compliance with NHPA ARPA NAGPRA CEQA SVP Guidelines California Public Resources Code Sections 5097.5 and 30244 PRPA NEPA American Antiquities Act
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor’s degree in geology earth sciences anthropology or related field with paleontological focus
- 2Minimum 2 years professional paleontological field experience in California
- 3Based in or near Long Beach CA with ability to work independently in remote field conditions
- 4Proficiency with GPS technology field documentation and Microsoft Office Suite
- 5Strong communication organizational and observational skills
- 6Experience with SVP standards or willingness to join
- 7Familiarity with Section 106 compliance site recordation and artifact analysis
- 8Background in archaeological surveys shovel testing and cultural resource documentation
- 9Knowledge of consulting compliance driven environments
