Occupational Safety & Health Specialist, Manufacturing
Overview
You will own occupational safety and health for Carrier Corporation's Charlotte site, operating on second shift from 4:30 pm to 12:30 am. Your work covers 70% safety and 30% health activities, from hazard identification to incident investigation. You'll collaborate with Carrier's EHS leadership and contracting agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. This role includes medical support, first aid oversight, and drug testing protocols, making it ideal for a safety or nursing professional seeking hands-on impact.
What You'll Do7
- 1Conduct OSHA inspections of workplace, equipment, and practices to identify risks and ensure compliance with company policies.
- 2Support Carrier's EHS initiatives by implementing site-specific safety programs and evaluating employee compliance.
- 3Investigate workplace accidents to determine root causes and collaborate with contracting agencies to prevent recurrence.
- 4Deliver safety training to team members on personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
- 5Oversee first aid for injuries and illnesses on second shift, transferring contractor cases to appropriate employers.
- 6Manage drug and alcohol testing protocols as required, documenting all incidents and outcomes.
- 7Implement Carrier policies and procedures, reinforcing site-specific work practices through regular audits.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or Nursing, or equivalent experience
- 2First Aid and BLS Certification required
- 3OSHA 10 or 30 hour course completion
- 42-5 years experience in Occupational Safety and/or Health
- 5Working knowledge of EHS, ergonomics, and OSHA standards
- 6Familiarity with epidemiology, safety, industrial hygiene, wellness, and behavioral change theory
- 7Emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and motivation
