Night Court Representative at CASES
Overview
You will screen approximately 10,000 defendants a year for Supervised Release in Manhattan Criminal and Supreme Courts, determining legal eligibility and making immediate recommendations. You will join the Arraignment team within the Court Services department, interfacing with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and community partners to facilitate ATD and ATI program admissions. What You'll Do12
- 1Build and maintain professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and court partners to facilitate Supervised Release admissions and uphold CASES credibility in Manhattan Criminal and Supreme Courts.
- 2Determine legal eligibility for Supervised Release by reviewing arrest case information, RAP sheets, and attorney recommendations, ensuring admitted participants receive the appropriate supervision level.
- 3Conduct screenings and assessment interviews to explain Supervised Release, administer screening tools, and formulate immediate recommendations for supervision and case management.
- 4Ensure participants understand pretrial supervision conditions and expectations for participation in Supervised Release.
- 5Achieve monthly intake targets and maintain quality pretrial standards in high-volume courtrooms.
- 6Accompany participants to court appearances and verbally advocate to judges for continuity in Supervised Release.
- 7Manage crises effectively to ensure participant safety and well-being.
- 8Document timely, complete, and accurate case records in the database, tracking participant demographics, intakes, re-arrests, and warrants.
- 9Collaborate with Supervised Release staff in borough offices to ensure accurate court information and participant compliance.
- 10Notify the court promptly about participant non-compliance, including absconding, failure to report, or rearrest.
- 11Provide culturally competent and anti-racist services per CASES policies, addressing the needs of youth, adults, and individuals with behavioral health needs.
- 12Participate in supervision, case reviews, staff meetings, and in-service trainings to build clinical, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed, and legal system competence.

- 1Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- 2Proven ability to function effectively in a high-paced, high-stakes environment and work independently.
- 3Ability to work effectively with diverse participants and staff; bilingual candidates preferred.
- 4Highly articulate and professional, able to present detailed information in court.
- 5Ability to work in a stressful environment and make sound judgments under time constraints.
- 6Interest in and sensitivity to issues facing justice-involved individuals.
- 7Excellent public speaking skills.
- 8Ability to formulate persuasive arguments for eligible defendants.
- 9Excellent analytical and written skills.
- 10Ability to work autonomously.
- 11Preferred: ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback; management experience.
